KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 – The RM100-million integrated news centre of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) in Bukit Angkasapuri here, to be ready next month, will become an icon reflecting the success of the country in broadcasting, Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said today.
He said the five-storey building, which will be completed on Jan 21, will serve as the centre for broadcast of news and current affairs as well as comprise an archives and the administrative office of RTM staff.
“Thus is realised the dream of the ministry and the government to establish the infrastructure for reporting. The project is 94 per cent complete and the remaining six per cent will be completed by Jan 21,” he told reporters after a visit to the project site.
Work on the building began on Jan 28, 2009.
“The centre will serve as a fine example for those who wish to see how a developing country can establish complete and sophisticated infrastructure aligned towards nation-building,” he said.
Dr Rais said RTM can no longer rely on old ways and has to be more prominent and competitive to develop new branding and quality reporting.
“We find that this has to be upgraded in terms of the new generation with new media facilities.
“Additionally, we need to create employees who will have a changed attitude because such an attitude is of most importance,” he said.
