KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 – The police have clarified that the 2009 death of former Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) president Datuk Patrick Wong was classified as murder from the very beginning.
Federal Police Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin said this in reference to an article titled, ‘Episode 2: The Murder of a Whistleblower’, posted by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin on the Malaysia Today online news portal.
“(Hence) The police rebut the insinuation that we have ruled Datuk Patrick Wong’s death as (due to) an accidental fall,” he said in a statement today.
“From the very beginning, the case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
“The case is not closed and investigations are ongoing,” he stressed.
Mohd Bakri has appealed to those with information on the case to facilitate police investigations.
In the article, Raja Petra raised questions over Wong’s death, claiming that the latter had been gathering evidence on the sand mining scandal in Selangor, a few years ago.
He claimed that Wong died at the hands of hired killers, and not as a result of an armed robbery.
