Bar Council Gives One-Sided View, Says Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 – The Bar Council seems to give a one-sided view on the verdict in the Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the Bar Council did not asked the Attorney General’s Chambers to file an appeal after the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Monday acquitted and discharged Anwar of the charge of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

Muhyiddin said Mohd Saiful’s father, Azlan Mohd Lazim has the rights to ask the prosecution to take up the case the Court of Appeal as his son was entitled to a recourse.

“This is an impassioned plea made by a father who seeks justice for his son and I think this is not against the law,” he told reporters after visiting the 1Malaysia People’s shop and restaurant participating in the 1Malaysia People’s Menu in Wangsa Maju here today.

On the probable water crisis in Selangor in 2014, Muhyiddin blamed the Selangor government for dragging its feet.

He urged the Selangor government not to politicise the water supply issue, instead approve the projects needed to avert the crisis.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Rozali Ismail said yesterday claimed that Selangor,Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya would face a water crisis in 2014 unless the state government approve three projects – the Sungai Langat 2 water treatment plant, the Pahang-Selangor raw water tunnel and the Salak Tinggi dam project.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said the Finance Ministry was assessing the allocation needed by the Malaysian Martitime Enforcement Agency to restore two amphibious aircraft, Bombardier Aerospace CL415MP which fell out of use since two years ago due lack of maintenance funds.

“Despite the problem, the MMEA’s enforcement capability is not affected as it can mobilise other assets,” he added.
